Dhivehi is the language spoken in all parts of the Maldives. A language that is believed to be a mixture of Hindi, Tamil, Singhala and Arabic that derives far as to indo-Arians. This is a different dialect of a different language. However there are three major dialects spoken in this tiny nation of approximately one hundred and eighty thousand people. The Southern most three Atolls speak in three different dialects and they are Addu, Mula and Huvadhoo Atoll. Nevertheless English is widely spoken by Maldivian and visitors can easily make themselves understood getting around the capital island. In the resorts, a variety of languages are spoken by the staff including English, German, French, Italian and Japanese.
