Red Sea Wrecks, Sharks & Reefs with Whirlwind

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Voted Liveaboard of the Year by the British Diving public for 3 years in a row, Whirlwind takes pride of place at the front of the award winning Tornado Marine Fleet. She is the result of many years working with divers and it shows. The approach is professional and the quality is unsurpassed. Launched in May 2006, Whirlwind certainly knows how to make a great first impression.

The signature design with split level dining room and saloon optimises the already generous space on board this 36m vessel. Light and airy, all 10 cabins are twin beds, en-suite with air con and have a safe box. The saloon area is ample with welcoming sofas, tables, plasma screen, DVD, a multi channel sound system, juice and hot drink station and of course the popular bar. The expansive upper sundeck runs almost the entire length of the boat whilst the lower sundeck is a perfect spot to sit back in and relax. Whirlwind is fully enabled for rebreather diving.

The Wrecks and Reefs itinerary is ideal for anyone new to the Red Sea. This itinerary hits all the key spots in the North, and then some. The Get Wrecked itinerary is the best way to visit the full volume of 19th and 20th C wrecks including Thistlegorm and Abu Nuhas. For a trip with broader scope, try a Brothers Wrecks Special that fits in Abu Nuhas, the Brothers, Safaga, Gubal and Thistlegorm. Whirlwind stands out from the crowd on any reef and the dedicated team know how to ensure that no aspect of your trip, no matter how small, goes unattended.

Sipadan Water Village is a resort beautifully constructed with Bajau architectural design. Part of the Mabul Island is also home to groups of Bajau fishermen who have built their traditional palm thatched houses.

The entire resort is built over water on stilts. In its design, Sipadan Water Village has achieved near utopia in its over-the-water layout, splendid water cottage accommodations with flowered sidewalks, wonderfully prepared Asian and Continental cuisine, and impeccable and personable service.

Sipadan Water Village is a resort beautifully constructed with Bajau architectural design. Part of the Mabul Island is also home to groups of Bajau fishermen who have built their traditional palm thatched houses. The Bajau Laut, the world’s only tribe of nomadic sea gypsies spends their lives on the water. Over the years, some have entered a transition from sea nomadic to sedentary village life at a former major anchorage site such as Mabul.

The entire resort is built over water on stilts made of Belian Wood commonly called ironwood, laid in certain points so as to minimise damage to the existing reef. In its design, Sipadan Water Village has achieved near utopia in its over-the-water layout, splendid water cottage accommodations with flowered sidewalks, wonderfully prepared Asian and Continental cuisine, and impeccable and personable service.

Sipadan Water Village international staff of dive guides and instructors pride themselves on knowing the intricacies of their reefs and willing to share their macro subject secrets with anyone interested. The architectural design of the 45 water chalets reflects the influence of the local Bajau style. The resort is located on a part of the island where it is sheltered from the storm. The floor of the water cottages is less than 1 meter above the high water mark. The chalets are spacious with wide sliding doors that open onto the room’s private deck.
